Alex Saunders, a 19 year old GP receptionist from Havant, Hampshire has won the first ever Practice Heroes award. The competition was set up by www.medical-supermarket.com to celebrate the unsung heroes of GP Practices across the UK. Alex wins a trophy and lunch for her whole team at Staunton Surgery, Havant Health Centre.
Commenting on the award, Susie Myhill, Deputy Practice Manager, said: “Alex has been a superstar at the practice since she first joined us back in May 2011. In her short time with us she has become an integral member of the team. She’s always happy and has a smile for all patients and staff alike.”
Since joining, Alex has taken over the waiting room display boards and showed an artistic flair which helps brighten up the practice, as well as providing important health information to patients. Alex also helps keep patients informed by keeping the practice website up-to-date.
Susie added: “Alex became the champion for our new EMIS WEB software. She helped train all of our colleagues, including doctors and nurses, on its use. Alex also devised training programmes for the reception team and conducted weekly training sessions. She is always there to lend a hand and has put in a lot of extra hours to help the software changeover happen as smoothly as possible. I fully back Alex as our Practice Hero and I’m delighted that her efforts have been recognised. She is a star and a huge asset to the practice.”
Nick Coleman, Director at www.medical-supermarket.com said: “We are thrilled to present Alex with our first Practice Heroes award. She is a worthy winner – it’s great to see someone making such a huge difference to the running of their practice. Congratulations, Alex!”
