First Aid and Emergency Training

First Aid and Emergency Training

The Resuscitation Council (UK) guidance states that: “All members of the Primary health Care Team who have contact with patients should be trained and equipped, to a level appropriate for their expected role, to resuscitate patients who suffer cardiopulmonary arrest in the community. The minimum standard should be proficiency in BLS (basic life support) and the majority of the team should be capable (with appropriate training) of using an automated external defibrillator (AED)."

For full details and a copy of the guidance, refer to the Resuscitation Council (UK) Guidance for Clinical Practice and Training in Primary Care. http://www.resus.org.uk/pages/cpatpc.htm.

The Department of Health National Minimum Standards and the Care Homes Regulations 2001 states that “the registered manager should ensure safe working practices”, which includes “the provision of a first aid box and a qualified first aider at all times”.
