Vaccine clinic supplies: frequently asked questions

What supplies do I need to run a flu or vaccination clinic?

Most clinics need needles and syringes, sharps bins, skin cleansing wipes, cotton wool and plasters for each patient; gloves, aprons, hand sanitiser and disinfectant wipes for infection control; a vaccine fridge with temperature monitoring; emergency equipment for adverse reactions; and trolleys and seating to run the session smoothly. Every item above links to the full range.

How should vaccines be stored?

UK guidance (the UKHSA Green Book) recommends storing most vaccines between +2°C and +8°C in a dedicated pharmaceutical or vaccine fridge, with temperatures checked and recorded daily. Domestic fridges are not recommended. Browse our Labcold vaccine fridges and thermometers.

Which sharps bin should I use for used vaccine needles?

Under HTM 07-01 colour coding, sharps contaminated with medicinal products, such as used vaccine needles and syringes, typically go in a yellow-lidded sharps bin, while orange-lidded bins are for sharps not contaminated with medicines. Always follow your local waste policy. See our full range of sharps bins and brackets.

Do I need emergency equipment at a vaccination clinic?

National guidance states that equipment and medicines for managing anaphylaxis should be readily available wherever vaccines are given, and staff should be trained to use them. Our emergency care range includes resuscitation and life-saving equipment.
